Setting Up A DIY Deck

Benefits of Our DIY Modular Aluminium Decking System

ClickDeck’s modular system allows you to build a DIY deck that’s tailored to the particular architectural features of your property. Our system can be built over natural ground, concrete, pavers, and waterproof membrane surfaces. The modular nature of the system will not only make your deck more adaptable to your specific needs, but it will also give your outdoor space a more personalised look.

Our decking kit features powder-coated aluminium components and various adjustable mechanisms. These features make DIY installation and maintenance a lot more manageable.

In addition, our system can accommodate all kinds of decking materials from various manufacturers. This includes composite decking, plastic decking, timber decking, and various eco-friendly decking options as well. Whether you’re using Ekodeck, ModWood decking or Merbau decking, you’re covered.

How to Build A DIY Deck

Here is ClickDeck’s simple deck building. For further information, make sure you refer to our instructional diagrams.

  • Determine Your Floor Height

To measure the floor height, combine the height of the bearer, joist, and deckboard. For example, if the joists and bearers are both 55mm high and your deckboard is 25mm high, then your floor height will be 135mm.

Once you have the measurement, make sure to adjust your pedestals or steel deck posts to accommodate your floor height. Take into account any slopes or irregularities on the ground.

  • Installing The Bearers

When installing the bearers, make sure to lay them on top of the pedestals, parallel to the direction of your deckboards. Space out the bearers evenly and, using two screws, secure each bearer to the pedestals. The bearers should have the flat side facing up.

  • Secure Joists to Bearer

Unlike bearers, joists should be laid perpendicular to the deckboards. Use hold down clips to firmly secure each joist to the bearers, making sure to install the clips on alternating sides of the joist. Please refer to the instructional diagrams for a visual aid.

Afterwards, make sure to install corner brackets at the joints for improvised stability and strength. If necessary, you should also attach the fascia board supports during this step.

  • Installing Decking material

Lastly, it’s time to install the deckboards. ClickDeck’s aluminium decking system is compatible with both composite materials and natural timber.

Each type of deckboard will have their own method of installation. Because of this, make sure you contact the manufacturer of your decking material if you’re unsure about the installation process.
